My name is Sean Bremner and I am a system administrator, writer, nature lover and nomadic farmer from South Africa. I have worked professionally as a writer for more than ten years, but have also worked in IT doing a range of different things, from tech support to system administration to off-grid networking. I’ve worked on and managed organic farms around Southern Africa, and also spent some time managing a guest farm and eco-village on the Wild Coast of the Eastern Cape of South Africa.

Our world is overflowing with information, far too much for our brains to readily retain and recall in any kind of efficient manner. Even our personal lives can be a lot to keep up with, which is why many people turn to some type of note-taking practise. This could be in the from of sticky notes dotted around your home; a simple pen and paper notebook; or one of 5 dozen different note-taking apps and services you’ll find on your mobile app store of choice.

The Best Reasons To Move Away From Google

Setting up a Gmail account for the first time (circa 2007) was exciting for me, especially because it was a free service available to anyone with a computer and an Internet connection. Plus, it came with an unprecedented amount of storage space at the time.

Since then, Google has become a ubiquitous part of our modern lives; so much so that the name of the company itself has become a commonly-used verb. Google’s expansion has extended far beyond email, and we now entrust our most of our digital activities to the company in one way or another.

The majority people in the world use messengers like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Telegram, and Snapchat. The problem, though, is that the companies running many of these services harvest an enormous amount of your data, which they then use to spin big profits.

To make matters worse, they can often see and record what you’re talking about in your private chats — especially bad when you consider that they may be legally compelled by federal agencies to hand over this information.
